Hi All,
 
Gary took a count of hands last night at the dance to see who would like to be dancing the Grand March and dance at the Mid-Winter Fest in Anchorage.  Most wanted to go to Anchorage.  So Gary stated that Paws and Taws would be NOT DANCING IN PALMER next Friday.

The fast track class helped out a great deal on re enforcing some of the calls in our heads.  Also it was a hoot just getting in more dance time. Thank You to Mike Preskitt for being such an entertaining and patient caller on Friday night and Saturday morning we had a great time.



After the class we then headed to a plus dance that night with Blaine Schmidt calling for the Dudes & Dames.  Another great dance we had a total blast.  Blaine can put your square into to some weird formations then the fun

 begins as he tries to get you home.  That man can tell you where the dancers are supposed to be in any square.  Hmmmm how does he do that???  Thank you Blaine for some great laughs.    I will not forget how to do the easy Relay the Ducey now.  That was fun.



Just a reminder block out your calendars for Mid-Winter Festival in February.  The dancing begins on Thursday night February 7 and runs til Sunday afternoon February 10.  Hope to see you there.

It is always fantastic to have so many new friends come by and dance with us.



The Santa Swingers are preparing to hold new classes beginning Thursday September 20.  We have heard the Paws & TAws will begin their classes on Friday, September 21.  Looking forward to hearing from the other clubs around Alaska on their ideas and when they will hold classes also.



This past Friday night the Santa Swingers held a going away party with hot dogs, chips, chili, salads and sodas for the Champagne's who will be flying south for the winter (actually they will be driving south here soon).  Our newest snow birds.  The turn out was great.



We were able to have 2 squares dancing and our guest caller from Palmer was Steve Sawyer.   The dancers loved the opprotunity to dance to some new music and a new voice behind the microphone.



The sale for the 2009 State Square & Round Dance went over extremelly well.  Lot's of thanks go out to those who donated items to the sale.  Also huge Thanks You goes out to Steve Sawyer for staying through saturday and volunteering his time and helping with the customers.   The people kept us on our toes and running through out Saturday. 



Also a special Thank You goes out to the Pruett's for opening up one of their airplane hangers for the sale.  Another special Thank You goes out to Diane Ramsey for donating. 



This weekend there are several dances for you to attend that could benefit from your help.



Saturday, August 25  The Paws & Taws will hold a demo at the Alaska State Fair.  Meet the dancers at The Colony Stage 7:30 to 8:30 pm.  For more info call 907-745-1951.

Sunday, August 26,  The Santa Swingers & Prospector Square Dancers will be holding a demo at the Catholic Church on Peger Road.  The demo will be from 3 - 4pm.  No square dance attire needed.  For more information call Jerrie at 907-687-0514.

I have gone to working nights stocking shelves at one of the local home improvement stores.  You do not realize with two jobs plus dancing how fast time flies by you.



It is already August and our snow birds are preparing to fly away at the end of the month.



We have had a great summer with the Youth Dance Camp having another great attendance of local youths.  Plus our dances have had a great turn out with a number of visiting dancers from all over the world. 



This Thursday night we will feature a caller from North Pole for the night.  Me our regular caller has to go out of town on business.  I have lots of new  music for your enjoyment so come out and hear what I have picked out for you.  I promise you will have a great time.   Dancing begins at 7:30pm at the dance hall in Pioneer Park.

Last night a few of the Santa's were able to attend a spring recital that our new youth square dancers were performing in. 


Anna and young Esther performed on violins while young Timothy, older brother Benjamin and young Julia showed their talents on the piano. 


All of the youths who performed did a wonderful job with all the pieces they played.  We watched several of the local North Pole Youths who all have amazing talents.  I am eagerly anticipating the next recital to see how much further they have gone in their studies.


The children have done a marvelous job in learning the steps of square dancing as well as the many other projects they have under their sleeves.  This past week the Santa's were able work with the young folks as well as their parents and other dancers on some Plus moves.   It always amazes me how much faster the youths learn the moves and understand them. 


I am looking forward to the Youth Dance Camp this summer where a few of their friends will be joining us in learning some of the basics of square dancing.  


Do not forget for those of you who have no plans for Memorial Day Weekend.  Buffalo Wallow  in Delta Jct begins next Friday, May 25 with the Santa's Annual After Wallow Dance on Monday, May 28.

Ellie is retiring and there will be a retirement party for her on Sunday, May 6th. Come out and let Ellie know how much you appreciate all she has done for the Round Dance Community. Ellie, Thank you for all the years you have put into helping new round dancers learn new steps and for all you have done for the community a huge Thank You.

Blaine's Prewedding Dance Saturday, May 12th

Come out and celebrate with the Dudes and Dames Square Dance Club in wishing Blaine and his Fiance a terrific new dance together in this prewedding Dance before their big day. They will be wed on Saturday, May 19th. To a great couple all the best from all of us here in Fairbanks. Have a great party.

6:30-10 PM at the Anchorage Square and Round dance center on
Government Hill.

Mike Preskitt was the caller for the evening and Sarah Preskitt was
the cuer. Chief cook and bottlewasher (can washer in this case) and
her able assistant were Denise Schmidt and Charley Schneider, their
help with the behind the scenes work was invaluable. A fabulous stew
was enjoyed by all the dancers after dancing a couple tips while the
stew warmed up. Stew was served in the rinsed out cans of veggies
contributed by each dancer. There were plenty of side dishes as well
as rolls, punch, coffee and water to be enjoyed. After supper there
was more dancing then we had cake to celebrate Sarah's successful
completion of her exams for her graduate degree from EIU.

We had 4 squares of dancers at the dance including Denise and St
Charley! Almost everyone participated in the costume parade, we had
6 winners. Dorothy and her pet skunk she had riding in red wagon
with a sign that said "homeless", with Charley following with a
dustpan and broom pretending to be the "pooper scooper", Janet in a
recycled bag dress made from a variety of colorful plastic bags, Tom
and Angela in a rags to riches type outfit, Tom dressed in a creative
suit and Angie in overalls, Burnie Johnson in patched overalls. Each
winner has a personalized foam coolie cup. All the contestants were
great! No losers here!

"King of the Road" and "The Best Things in LIfe are Free" were
featured singing calls to fit the theme.

Most of the dancers were still dancing for the last tip at 10PM so we
consider the dance a big success!

The Starduster's Annual Hobo Dance is this Saturday, April 21, 2007

Come celebrate the end of another tax season.
Dancing starts at 6:30, hobo stew when its done.

Do not forget next week The Santa's Annual Spring Fling.

Lots of great dancing for 4 days to a great caller and a fantastic Cuer. Lots of great door prizes, games, and a surprise visit from a well known tv personality.

The floor was hopping with 5-6 squares dancing at one time.  Thank you to the following callers and cuer who participated in the dancing.  Thank You to callers:  Gary Feaster, Mike Preskitt and Jerrie Lynn and cuer Sarah Preskitt for another great night of dances.


The dancing began at 6:30pm and ran until 10pm.  The Pie Auction went well with some bids running high on several of the special pies. 


I hope everyone had a great time visiting and dancing and let's not forget the many slices of different pies that were available for all to try.   There are some great cooks in the Palmer/Wasilla area.   The pies were mouth watering good.  If you missed this years Pie Auction look into attending next years dance.      You will not regret the effort of attending a great dance.


 


Let's not forget the Paws & Taws have the honors of holding the State Festival this year in June.   Get your registration in early to recieve a discount.  May 1st is the last day for the discounted rate.  Look for the Paws & Taws Dancers at the Spring Fling in Fairbanks at the end of the month to register early.  Also get in on the auction for the quilt raffle.

Lots of great dancing and plenty of yummy Pies of all types to munch on.  Do not worry ladies eat your slice of Pie then dance it off in 3 tips of dancing. 



Also do not forget that there will be many special Pies up for Auction.  The money raised from the auction go toward Palmer's State Dance.
